February 27, 2012 – Any type of cosmetic skin care procedure can be expensive. You always want to have a qualified, experienced dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon perform the
procedure, but you also should have an idea of what the national average cost is for that procedure. You also need to know that there may be extra fees besides what the dermatologist or doctor charges. There can be fees for anesthesia, medical supplies used or even hospital services if you have an invasive procedure. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has a yearly update on average dermatologists and surgeon fees, so keep reading to get an idea of how much you can expect to be charged.

Laser hair removal, whether it’s on the face or body, averages about $314 per session and usually takes one to two hours depending on the size of the treatment area. Remember that it takes several sessions for good results.

A dermatologist’s or cosmetic surgeon’s fee for laser skin resurfacing averages $2,232 for a session of an hour or two. For microdermabrasion you can expect to pay about $125 per 30 to 60 minute session.

Dermabrasion is a little more expensive, with dermatologist’s or cosmetic surgeon’s fees running around $1,423 per session.

In our next post we’ll list the average national cost of injectable fillers and chemical peels.
