February 22, 2012 – So we’ve all heard that we should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to maintain good health and a great complexion. But is that really true? Does drinking eight or more glasses of water really help clear up your skin and make it look younger? If you drink more water can it help you have healthy skin?
There are plenty of people who will tell you that drinking lots of water will help to clear up your skin and keep your complexion looking younger. In truth, dinking enough water is essential to overall health. But according to a study published by the British Nutrition Foundation, there is no real evidence that drinking extra water makes your complexion better. There are other skin care routines that will produce better results.
Being dehydrated can cause your skin to look dull and even dry. But according to the report, that is the only real instance when drinking extra water helps your complexion. Instead, you should focus on eating a healthy, balanced diet and protecting you skin from sun exposure. Using sun screen, eating fruits and vegetables high in vitamins A, B, C and E is better for your skin than drowning it with too much water.
So if you’ve been having a hard time drinking eight glasses of water a day in an effort to vitalize your skin, remember there is also water in other beverages and in foods. Drink water if you’re thirsty, but don’t struggle to drink lots of water just because you’ve heard it’s good for you and promotes clear skin. And if you always drink eight glasses of water a day and that works for you, keep it up!
